Cheesesteaks are glorious. Did you know you can skip the South Philly lines and make a delicious version at home? Normally home version are disappointing, but follow our guide and your family will be requesting these weekly!
3-4 steak/hoagie rolls
1 large sweet or yellow onions sliced
6 slices of American (or provolone) cheese. Or a combination of both.
1 teaspoon of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste.
Optional: Bell peppers, mushrooms sliced.
It’s best to make this in a cast iron pan, but any good sauté pan will work.
Step 1: Take your thinly sliced onions and sauté in teaspoon of hot oil on medium/high heat until soft and beginning to caramelize. This should take about 5 minutes. Stir constantly.
Step 2: Add your chip steak. It’s already sliced, so add it to onions and mix until well combined with onions. Cook until meat had turned from pink to brown. This only take about 3-4 more minutes. Add a large pinch of salt and pepper. Mix to combine.
Step 3. Make sure your rolls are prepped sliced and ready. If you want to freshen them up in the oven on 350 for 5 minutes and as optional step, now is the time.
Step 4. Turn steak pan off head and place 6 sliced on stop of the onion Let melt for a minute before mixing to incorporate with the beef.
Step 5. Taste it. Awesome right? Thinking about quitting your job and opening up a cheesesteak stand at the stadium on the weekends? Make sure it has the right amount of salt and pepper, add a touch more if needed.
Step 6. Take the open cheesesteak roll in one hand. In your other hand with a large spoon or spatula scoop a heat portion of the meat cheese and onions into the roll. Serve hot wit a pickle and tall glass of wooder. Take a picture of it and make your friends jealous. Go birds.
